Too many sports balls end up in landfill.
You can help change that
Most sports balls are made from rubber, synthetic leather, foam and plastic – materials that don’t break down. Every year, thousands of damaged or worn-out balls are tossed away by clubs with no easy way to recycle them.
The TreadLightly program gives your club a simple way to act. For $21, you can collect and recycle up to 40kg of unwanted sports balls.
how it works:
- Purchase a collection kit (includes six bags) for $21 via our website
- We send you six pre-labelled bags for your club.
- Collect old balls and book your collection online.
- Balls are sorted, reusable ones are donated, the rest recycled.

WHY SPORTS BALLS?
- 10 million tennis balls are used each year to play the game we love.
- It’s predicted that 330 million balls are made worldwide each year, and most of these eventually end up in landfill.
- Balls components can take more than 400 years to decompose.
what happens to the balls?
Once collected, balls are sent to our Melbourne facility where they’re sorted by condition.
Reusable balls are donated to community groups and clubs.
Damaged balls are shredded and turned into new products like:
- Infill for boxing bags
- Recycled-content pavers
This helps keep synthetic waste out of landfill and supports local recycled manufacturing.
